About Us |
Dr. Fixit Institute of Structural Protection and Rehabilitation (DFI-SPR) is a not-for-profit knowledge centre primarily to act as a platform for “enhancing the service life of built environment through global sharing of knowledge and practices in the fields of Waterproofing, Structural Protection, Repair & Rehabilitation”. The Institute is promoted by Pidilite Industries Limited and is managed and operated on a stand-alone basis. It is registered under Section 25 of the Indian Companies Act, 1956. DFI-SPR accredited by National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) as per ISO / IEC : 17025 – 2005 in the discipline of Non Destructive Testing and Chemicals.
One of the objectives of DFI-SPR is to bring and popularize the country with the global standards and practices of Waterproofing, Repair and Rehabilitation technologies. As a step towards achieving this objective, the DFI-SPR has been conducting several programmes all over the country for creating awareness and skill development in the field of Waterproofing and Repairs of Structures. |

Achievements |
Over the last decade we have created expertise in structural assessment services and providing training in the field of waterproofing and repair. Structural assessment work encompasses diagnosis of distress in structures using advanced non-destructive testing, petrography analysis of concrete and specialized chemical evaluation of Alkali Aggregate Reaction, Sulfate and Chloride attack, Carbonation analysis etc. We have a unique expertise in detection of water leakage in building systems along with remedial measures. A constant effort is made to equip our institute with state of the art equipments and technology.
Dr. Fixit institute (DFI) has introduced special elective courses to various prestigious academic institutes such as Mumbai University, National Institute of Construction Management and Research (NICMAR), DY Patil University (Pune), Nirma University (Ahmedabad), National Institute of Technical Teachers’ Training and Research (NITTTR, Chandigarh), Industrial Training Institute (Bhavnagar). DFI also conducts programs on entrepreneurial training in waterproofing and repair and provides distance education courses.Over the years Dr. Fixit Institute has trained more than 10000 professional and 7000 students. We have prepared code of practices in waterproofing which is under review by the Bureau of Indian Standards. |

Why DFI - SPR |
In consonance with global trends, a significant percentage of India's civil structures have eroded with age, neglect, and misuse,in addition to basic deficiencies in their design. Reliable statistics of such structural damage are not readily available, but the extent and magnitude are visible in all parts of the country. In terms of resources employed, repair and rebuilding seem to match new constructions around us.
One of the prime factors contributing to such large-scale structural damage is the water permeation and seepage, particularly in tropical high-monsoon regions. Hence, renewal engineering, in general, and waterproofing, in particular, are turning out to be the critical issues in the construction sectors encompassing residential, commercial, industrial and infrastructures segments.
However, with the construction industry being highly fragmented and characterized by varying degrees of technical sophistication, the dissemination and sharing of knowledge about new materials, systems and best practices that evolve with time is not being done for solutions that address sustainability. Lack of such knowledge sharing is, in all probability, being linked with the absence of focused intellectual platforms bridging the construction industry and academia.
The Dr. Fixit Institute of Structural Protection and Rehabilitation has been conceived and established to fill this gap. The Institute has tie up with relevant national and international bodies and build on its own core strength to disseminate right and reliable information and data on new materials, systems and application practices for waterproofing, mitigation of structural distress, etc. This objective will be realised by training and re-training the professionals; by organising workshops and seminars, and by demonstrating newer technologies from within and outside the country. All in all, in a wider sense, the Institute will foster change in sustainable development practices through knowledge sharing. |
VISION |
To become a premier national knowledge and skill development centre for capacity enhancement in waterproofing and other areas of repair, restoration and renewal engineering based on sustainable and green technologies.. |
MISSION |
To act as a platform of national and international networking for sharing of knowledge and practices in the fields of waterproofing, repair, restoration, and renewal engineering in the context of life cycle assessment of the built environment for adoption of best practices by the country’s construction industry. |
